Let me help you get that dream off the ground.  I can enter into the developement process at any stage. The eagle project pictured above is a typical example. The client already had the plaster model made  (the one mounted on the board) They needed someone to cast 300 eagles in a hurry, in a light weight foam. We helped them out by  making 20 silicone molds and casting the 300 eagles in foam by the deadline they had set.  The 16" wingspan eagles only weighed 1lb. each. They were quite pleased with the quality and timeliness of the order.

#1001    Contrary to popular belief job #1001 does not signify the year I started in business. Since I have done over one thousand art projects for various and sundry institutions (what is sundry anyway?)  I have merely numbered this article #1001 for convience sake.

Making a Square Planter Model out of Foam

I have breifly outlined the   fabricating process on making a square planter model so that those who feel competant in doing a similar project can forge ahead and do so. The necessary materials have been made clickable so they may ordered easily. Those who require my assistance in having a model made for them may e-mail me for a quote.

This is a peicce of  Urethane foam. You can use urethane foam or EPS foam. I cut 4 peices measuring 11"X 6"X 1-3/4" the size specified for the sides of the planter by the client. Then I cut a piece for the bottom.

You can use common wood working tools to cut foam.

Cut the edges at 45° Angles. Then taper the side pieces so the inner walls of the planter will be drafted  as shown in the diagram below.

Then glue all the parts together with Foam Loc adhesive spray.  .

After assembling, apply 2 coats of shellac to the foam box. Then I use USG all purpose joint compound to fill viods. Sand the joint compound smooth with the surface. Then put a coat of shellac over the thoroughly dried joint compound. Your model is now ready to have a latex mold made on it.
